Watching “The Middle” Is Like Watching A Home Movie

http://abc.go.com/shows/the-middle/indexMy kids have grown, but each week when I watch Patricia Heaton as Frankie on ABC’s “The Middle“, it brings me right back to the mid-90’s when my kids were in school. The drama of kids needing money or projects for school, that I’m not told about until the last minute, is as fresh as the last time I stayed up late completing one of my kids’ assignments after swearing I’d never do that.  Or the many times I dug through the laundry looking for change for lunch money.

My kids forced to sell gift wrap (cheese in her case) in order to raise money for the school that turns into mom project as the competition takes on a life of its own between the parents.  As usual, the prize for “winning” is usually something no one wants, but that’s forgotten in the heat of the competition. Yikes, I guess I don’t miss those days at all!  But at least with “The Middle” I can laugh at Frankie and the family.

“The Middle” is an edgy, over-the-top look at family life. It’s not glamorous, they live in a very typical house, and they have trouble making ends meet.  That’s why I love them.  They’re fun, real, and let you laugh at how closely it mimics your own life. Heck, it’s better than crying about it.  Crazy kids and even crazier parents means that it’s 30-minutes of fun.  Fabulous acting as well.  The kids are perfect!

Give it a try, Wednesdays, 8:30pm  – just before “Modern Family” which is also great but in a totally different way. By the way, if you miss an episode, you can watch it online at Hulu.com, Fancast.com, or ABC.com.

DISCLOSURE OF MATERIAL CONNECTION – I have been hired by Warner Bros to help raise awareness for The Middle.

We know Patricia just slightly from church a few years ago. She’s a really good person and a solid actress. I’m so glad she’s on another show and hope it’s a hit. And I can relate to this, too, having just finished another Native American diorama! :)
